Artavia

Kevin Artavia was born in San José, Costa Rica in 1991, where he worked as an illustrator and as a tattoo artist. At the end of the last decade, when he moved to Mexico City he embarked on a new facet as a plastic artist, venturing into the field of painting, sculpture and the creation of objects.

Although being self-taught, he has sought to reinforce his vocation by participating in various workshops such as: “Ceramic Modelling” led by Mtro. Luis Alberto Martínez, Mexico City, Mexico (2020-2024); Drawing and painting course “Reinterpreting the Human Figure” taught by Mtro. Ulises Licea, in Tepoztlán, Morelos, Mexico (2021); “Sculpture Techniques and Materials” workshop taught by Mtro. Jonathan Gómez, in Mexico City, Mexico (2020); Painting workshop led by Mtro. Oliver Schnaider, Fascinas, Andalusia, Spain (2019); Private Painting Lessons thought by Mtro. Agustín Castro López, Mexico City, Mexico (2018).

His artistic work is known for its infiltration of multiple techniques and materials within sculpture and painting. His themes reflect his capacity for transformation and abstraction, through which he addresses current issues and social interests, with powerful and lively creations placing him in the vanguard of the artistic postmodernity of the country.

He has participated in several solo and collective exhibitions, including: “Triptychs”, Jovian Fine Art Gallery, in Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico (2024); “Hairy”, Jovian Fine Art Gallery, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico (2023); “Hidden”, Sangremal Gallery, Queretaro, Queretaro, Mexico (2022); “Mutations”, Corsica Art Gallery, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico and San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico (2021). “Fantastic Visions”, Corsica Art Gallery, Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico and San Jose del Cabo, Baja California Sur, Mexico (2020).
